A Closer Look: The Best Runway Detail Shots of 2024

Every year, we go through the hundreds of runway detail shots and pick our favorites. It’s a lot of work, sure, but it’s also a lot of fun. The process is simple: you pick out everything you like best and afterwards you see what patterns emerged. Some of them are straightforward trends—like the hand in the front pocket thing that Nicolas di Felice started at Courrèges earlier this year—and others were more vibes-based. To wit; some cool haircuts and hairstyles, three shoe styles that seemed like they were evolving from one another, and the realization that the close up shots of every model at Yohji Yamamoto’s spring 2025 menswear show looked like they were taken from the series of portraits taken of people who sat across Marina Abramoviç at her 2010 MoMA show. It’s like a free-association test, what do you see when you take a closer look? We could talk about the return of the character to fashion and the banishment of cookie-cutter aesthetics, and we’d be at least partly right. But mostly this was just a lot of fun.
