“I don’t go nowhere without my Laneige,” says Angel Reese, capping off her skin-care regimen—and the rest of her Beauty Secrets—with Vogue. As she prepares to gloss her pout with the Korean brand’s Lip Glowy Balm, the WNBA star says: “I have all of [the Laneige lip products]. I have the Sleeping Mask. This is the one I always throw in my purse.” She also keeps it within reach during basketball games. “I keep my Laneige on the bench,” she says. “That’s the key. Whenever I get back to the bench [during] time-outs, the Laneige is on.”
As she describes her game-day beauty routine, the Maryland native says, “I don’t do too much on the court.” That doesn’t mean she eschews makeup entirely, mind you. As she dots on her Nars concealer—keeping it light enough so that she’s still “giving skin”—the 22-year-old says, “That’s my thing: Normalizing being able to be super girly and super cute but also be a dog on the court.” It’s been her thing for quite a while.
Reese started playing basketball at four, and it wasn’t long after that when her signature courtside style took shape. “My grandma used to always put mascara on my eyes when I was younger, and I used to go on the basketball court,” she says. “That’s how I got the name Bayou Barbie—because I always had my nails, lashes, and hair done.”
These days, the self-professed “pink girly” adds rose blushes from Juvia’s Place and Patrick Ta to her look, and her attitude about it matches the Unapologetic tattoo scrawled on her wrist. “I’m a blush freak,” she says. “You’re gonna see my blush from down the block, and that’s just my thing.”
