Tapestry has sold Stuart Weitzman to Caleres (the group that owns Sam Edelman and Famous Footwear, along with the footwear licences for Veronica Beard and Vince) for $105 million in cash. The deal is expected to be finalised this summer, subject to closing conditions.
The sale will allow Tapestry to focus its attention on Coach and Kate Spade. “As diligent stewards of our portfolio and disciplined allocators of capital, this transaction ensures that all of our brands are positioned for long-term success and that we maintain a sharp focus on our largest value creation opportunities,” said Tapestry CEO Joanne Crevoiserat in a statement. “At Tapestry, this means harnessing our position of strength to sustain Coach’s leadership and momentum while reinvigorating Kate Spade to drive durable organic growth and shareholder value. At the same time, we are pleased that we found Stuart Weitzman a home in Caleres — an ideal owner to guide its next chapter of growth.”
Stuart Weitzman has been the underperformer in the portfolio for some time. Coach has seen a revival in recent years thanks to its success with Gen Z (sales were up 10 per cent year-on-year to $1.7 billion in Q2 2025, per the company’s most recent earnings). Kate Spade’s sales dropped 10 per cent to $416.4 million; Crevoiserat made it clear that the company’s focus is to reignite the brand with improved product development and customer acquisition. Meanwhile, Tapestry said that Stuart Weitzman’s sales dropped 16 per cent year-on-year to $69.7 million in the second quarter, largely due to declines across China and the US, as well as wholesale underperformance.
Rumours had been swirling that Tapestry would sell Stuart Weitzman since the termination of its merger with Capri (the company that owns Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo). Since then, Tapestry has made it clear that focusing on its existing portfolio is the priority.
Tapestry had owned Stuart Weitzman since 2015, when it bought the footwear brand for $574 million from Sycamore Partners.
Caleres began in 1878 as a shoe manufacturing company based in St Louis, Missouri. Since then, the company has expanded to own brands including Sam Edelman, along with licensing for labels like Vince.

We will leverage our demonstrated, best-in-class footwear capabilities while pursuing category and channel growth. We expect to operate the brand profitably post integration and I look forward to partnering with both the Tapestry and Stuart Weitzman teams for a seamless and successful transition.”
