I’m not too sure when my love-hate relationship with makeup started. Perhaps it was during my senior year of college when I got too swamped with assignments, or maybe it was after all the years of heavy dance team makeup — either way, as a beauty writer, my relationship with makeup (or lack thereof) is one of my biggest insecurities. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy playing with and swatching new launches for work. But in my everyday life, actually putting on makeup and wearing it throughout the day kinda gives me the ick — until recently, anyway.

Earlier in the year, Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) released a new foundation that sparked the light of the aspiring MUA YouTube creator in me (IYKYK). Back in the 2010s, even when I was loading up my face with what felt like half a pound of product for Friday Night Lights, I adored watching and recreating beauty looks. I would stay on top of the latest drops and collect Naked and ABH eyeshadow palettes like Pokémon cards (again, IYKYK). But even since becoming a beauty writer, nothing has sparked that joy quite like the new Blurring Matte Foundation. After watching different creators of all shades try and fall in love with the latest product, I knew I had to have it.

Impeccable Blurring Second-Skin Matte Foundation

The new Impeccable Blurring Second-Skin Matte Foundation is described as a medium-to-full coverage matte foundation that blurs the look of your skin, almost like a natural filter would on TikTok. Per the brand, it’s said to “blur, hydrate, and control oil with a natural finish” AKA all the things I would want in a foundation, so I was extremely eager to try it. After being lucky enough to be sent two shades, I immediately put the new product to the test. I wanted to see if I would have the same jaw-dropping reaction as some of my favorite creators. And if you want me to cut to the chase, I did.

I don’t think I’ve been this blown away by a foundation since Rihanna dropped Fenty Beauty (again, you just had to be there). Like Rihanna’s Pro Filt’r, the new ABH foundation offers a soft, beautiful matte coverage that looks so much like your skin. After pumping out a few drops and gently blending it in, I knew I was in love. I found the coverage to be more on the full side compared to medium — which I love. If I wear makeup, it will be a full face or nothing at all, so having a product that offers full coverage without having to use too much is a blessing.

After the coverage, what really got me was how well it sits and blends with other products on my skin. If I’m being 100 percent honest, I’m a huge procrastinator. Getting ready in the morning is more like the rushing Olympics for me, and the very last thing I do is my makeup, if I even have the time for it. I know a makeup product really works for me if I can apply it in five minutes or less and it blends well with the other things on my face. So, for the sake of true Journalism (and because I’m always running late), I tried to see if this new foundation could work for a five to ten-minute routine. Because the coverage is so full, it blends effortlessly on the skin. I could cover my entire face in about two to three minutes to get the look I wanted. When applying concealer, contour, and cream blush, it held up perfectly. It didn’t move, pile, or look overly cakey, which is exactly what you want when you’re doing a full face.

However, as amazing as this foundation is, it wouldn’t be fair to give it all the credit. I genuinely do believe that without the new Impeccable 24HR Setting Spray, my makeup wouldn’t have held up as well as it did. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that ABH also dropped a setting spray to go with the new foundation? I’ve tried a lot of setting sprays in my time and most of them are pretty much all the same; it’s not much to write home about. However, there are a handful that I sweat by and will always reach for. This ABH one has recently been inducted into my top five and it’s not number five, if you know what I mean.

All in all, I have to thank Anastasia Beverly Hills for rekindling my love for wearing makeup again. I truly didn’t think it was possible, but the way this foundation looks on my skin has gotten me excited to try playing with different looks, let alone just putting it on. While both of the new products will run you over $80 together, I do think they’re so worth it.Anytime I wear them, I always get compliments and questions on what I’m wearing.
