Sam Nivola may be the son of Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer, but he’s currently stealing the scenes in his role in The White Lotus. The actor plays Lochlan Ratliff, the naive son of Timothy and Victoria, who gets swept away in his family’s crazy antics.
Speaking of family, Nivola’s parents gave him some wise advice. “My parents always tell me to make sure you stay close to your friends from high school who aren’t actors and stay interested in things like books and music and cooking,” the actor told The Face. “I think it’s probably a lot easier to get wrapped up in being surrounded by people who ‘love’ you if you surround yourself with those people. I try to diversify who my friends are.” Wise words.

Sam Nivola’s girlfriend is Iris Apatow, who is the daughter of producer Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann and the younger sister of Maude Apatow. Nivola debuted his relationship with Apatow in an Instagram carousel on April 2024. The pictures included behind-the-scenes photos with his on-screen brother and sister: Patrick Schwarzenegger who plays Saxon, and Sarah Catherine Hook who plays Piper. He captioned the post, “The pookinator is looking absolutely FIRE tonight” which is a reference to Campbell and Pookie’s TikToks.
Nivola opened up about bringing his girlfriend on set and how it felt like it was a vacation. “I brought my girlfriend for a few months, which was amazing,” he told People. “It was so great to have a taste of home because it was 10,000 miles away from home, and it was so nice of her to sacrifice that time to come be with me and I’m incredibly grateful to her.”
He continued, “It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The amount of money in Asia in general, I’d never been to Asia before, and it’s just amazing. It’s astounding. And those hotels are just the nicest buildings I’ve ever been in and it has ruined my standards. Any other hotel just pales in comparison to those Four Seasons.”
The two also went on vacation with Iris’ BFFs Olivia Rodrigo and her beau Louis Partridge and It Couple Tate McRae and The Kid Laroi.
